Women’s Community Shelter

Women's Community Shelter

Our Partnership with WCS was formed when we realised that it was time to give back to the community. With an increasing number of women entering the construction industry and NPM having 60% women within its offices alone, we thought this women’s charity was the right fit.

WCS is an Australian charity and nonprofit organization which provides direct relief of suffering for disadvantaged and homeless women by establishing new shelters in partnership with local communities.

Their network of shelters across NSW provide a safe and secure space for women and their children who due to physical, emotional or sexual abuse, family breakdown, financial strife, domestic violence, mental health issues or lack of affordable housing – are homeless.

Existing services cannot meet the demand for crisis accommodation for women who are homeless.

More than one in two women across Australia who seek a bed in a crisis shelter are turned away every night, mostly due to a lack of space.

Since the start of this partnership we have been part of fun-run charities, guest speaker events, their head office refurbishment, co-wrapped a vehicle promoting their charity and most recently part of a housing project.

“Women’s Community Shelters is delighted to be the charity partner of National Projects and Maintenance (NPM). We are incredibly grateful for the amazing support NPM have provided, both financially and in kind to date.

A partnership that began with a small office relocation project has developed into a meaningful, supportive and symbiotic relationship that goes beyond offering rudimentary support to truly understanding the needs of our charity, our values and the women and children we assist.

We are incredibly grateful to General Manager, Daniel Afonso, for his philanthropic attitude towards partnership working, his hardworking and supportive team and their amazing contractors, many of whom have worked pro bono in support of WCS.

We look forward to developing the partnership further as our shelter network expands and we open more crisis shelters for women and children in need.”

Beecroft Project

We were pleased to have been a part of a project working with charity, Women’s Community Shelter.

Beecroft Housing Partnership is a project for women over 55, providing a secure housing option for women in need. The housing provides up to two years of safe transitional housing where afterwards the women receive support to find permanent housing.

Beecroft Housing is a heritage house and was formerly a large retirement home that had been empty for two years. The NPM team stepped in to refurbish and restore the site, to offer studio-style accommodation for the project. The team worked for 4 continuous weeks, 6 days a week to bring the building back to livable conditions and give it that home sweet home feel. To help meet this deadline fifty of NPMs office staff also donated their time and helped in taking part with the cleaning process.

The house included 45 bedrooms, 20 bathrooms a communal kitchen and three social rooms.

Using our trusted network of trades the Goodwin Brothers, Capstone Electrical, Grosvenor, Premier Fire, King Commercial flooring, Chromatech and DPC and the number of retailers donated their time, resources, helping hands, furnishings, appliances, linen, bedding and more.

We were thrilled to be a part of this project and our staff volunteers felt immensely proud to be helping make a difference in someone’s life.

A great result for Women’s Community Shelter, Twilight and Aged Care, The Generous & The Grateful, Link Housing and Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter.
