UNSW Tesla Batteries

Our Construction Services team collaborated with Transgrid and Tesla to deliver a specialised project for UNSW.

After excavating the garden and trenching a section of the road, conduits were laid as per TransGrid requirements. The team installed electrical meter, and then coordinated the delivery of Tesla batteries, inverter and a switchboard. Finally, a secure steel enclosure with a sliding door was erected. A great project delivered with minimum disruption to the university.

The 500kWh battery storage system is a joint TransGrid-UNSW trial on distributed demand management.

TransGrid can remotely activate the storage system at times of peak demand in the network, in order to relieve stress on the grid.

UNSW academics will use it as an educational and research tool to study how high levels of renewable energy generation in the electricity supply network can be managed by using distributed storage solutions.
