Juliette Seymour from NPM talks to Bank of QLD during NAIDOC week

During this years NAIDOC week our very own Juliette Seymour was asked to be the guest speaker for Bank of Queensland NAIDOC week celebration event held on Friday 13/7/2018.

NAIDOC week which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples theme this year was ‘Because of her we can’.

Juliette gave a heartfelt speech about her role as an Aboriginal woman in a corporate environment, what NAIDOC means to her and how this year’s theme ‘Because of her we can’ relates to her and her family. She also discussed how Careertrackers have helped her throughout her career and journey.

Juliette’s speech complemented her mother for her achievements, strength, culture, education and opportunities saying “Because of her I am standing here before you today, as someone who has just graduated with a Batchelor degree. Because of her I have an education, because of her I have had the opportunities to learn and grow. Because of her, I learnt to never give up on my dreams or aspirations, because of her I have become a strong empowered woman. Because of her I am who I am today.”

Juliette also acknowledged Careertrackers saying “It was in 2015, in my 2nd year of university that I joined Careertrackers. It allowed me to continually learn and be a part of a community of people going through similar if not harder times in life. Careertrackers surrounded me with positive, passionate driven people that I continue to look up to in both my professional and personal life. I knew that I had continuous support and a community that was there for each other, that learn from each other and grow with each other.

From joining Careertrackers my grades have progressed every year. From my first year to my final year of university my grades had doubled, and I became the first person in my family to not only go to university but to finish it. My work with Lendlease is what drove me and it taught me what I am truly passionate about and I couldn’t have done it without my family. It taught me that a fine arts degree has a lot more career options than you might think. Careertrackers not only helped me with my career but they gave me so much more, they gave me a community and a family and  I for that I want to say Thank you.”

NAIDOC week was held 8-15 July 2018 across the country. More information found here
